The Faces of the Fan

It was a joyous trip to Hamiltron recently, to watch the Blues spank the Chiefs just like in the olden days...

One Chiefs fan dared travel with us - he in line of sight of these next three shots - Zoolander had Blue Steel - Jonesboy presents:
"Number 1"

This being a reminder to the said Chief's fan that the Blues are top of the table...

"The Choke"
Reminding the Chief's fan of his team's tendency to choke (as the Blues score their first try in the second half)

"Dagger to the Heart"

Celebrating the Blues second try in the second half with this classic "game over" equivalent...

What a night! Consoling texts from the Chief's fan's significant other added to the enjoyment. To be fair, the Chiefs put up a good fight, with returning players Richard Kahui and Keith Robinson adding something to the home team. But the substitution of Williams and Mealamu demonstrated why these guys are All Blacks.

Yaaaaaawn.

Why anyone would bother traveling to Hamilton is beyond me. Especially for something as lame and boring as Rugby.

Though inside I do recognise the superiority of the Chief's over the Blues in recent history. Obviously they are going through a bit of slump, but they will rise again and slay the metrosexual Blues.

Even though I am a Blues fan, I must admit that having a quarter of the nation's population to pick from hasn't made them a comparatively better team. In fact this is the first season in a while we're we've actually been able to smile. Clearly I am making the most of my pent up frustrations.

and (lower case) bj you clearly also need identity theft therapy...

The myth that the Blues should be a better team (what better than at the top of the table with one loss?) comes down to one simple fact:

It doesn't matter how big your franchise is, you still only get 22 players for a game...

Also, if you're talking Chiefs you have to take into account:

Steven Bates ex Auckland
Sione Lauaki ex Westie (Auckland)
Mils Muliaina ex Auckland
Tasesa Lavea ex Auckland
Tu'ipolotu ex Auckland

You can add up the Auckland imports around the other teams - all this to say - the Blues franchise gives away many of its good players to other franchises both permanently through transfers to NPC teams (eg Moses Tuiali'i) or on loan for Super 14.

So the gap is narrowed because the professional era rewards good scouting. This is positive for NZ rugby because the best players get seen...

In 2006 not a single player registered with their local union transferred to Auckland...

Oh by the way - if you're wondering who the real bj really is - look for the photo, well at least in the last few posts, cos it won't take him long to grab the other photo for his avatar...hmmm actually thinking about that, it would be a pretty good trick to get my avatar to show on a fake post...

Your new photo impresses me. You have clearly rolled with the punch on this one. (well, by the look of it, you've been rolling something...)

:)

Is that the first time you've seen it then? :)

I see I turn out lower case on here as well :(. Funny cause the email notifications have me upper and the interloper(s) in lower...

Nice try "jonesboy7". A couple of comments:

1. You're still lower case bj - the original is upper case in every way

2. Your punctuation leaves a lot to be desired (which helps me rule out some people)

3. For some reason my other blogs didn't show up in the list - you clearly lacked the commitment to complete the fraud...

Excellent effort, though - you obviously have too much time on your hands...

Steve,

I'm not sure it was punch either...

Who is the real BJ?

What is reality?

What makes me any less real than you?

Stop trying to imitate me.
