It wasn't super smooth with mine either - the biggest problem is you've got to transfer templates...and I couldn't find a way to do it on the HTML and therefore just transfer all the links over.
If I were doing it again, I would change my blog to an existing version of one of the acceptable templates they let you pick and then see whether it would deem the changeover as not requiring a new template. That seems to be an option.
